Our 2015 Salmon Fry has been in the books for a couple weeks now. As always, it was a great success, even with the number of people served down just a little bit from last year. However, the event was right on average for those served over the past several years.
We’d like to thank Kent’s Market, Eliason’s Trucking, Camp Chef, Sue Jensen (Cooks all those potatoes), Miller’s Gas, Rupp’s Trucking, Garland Youth Council, Garland Library, Vulcraft/Nucor, Garland City Council and the families of the firefighters who help the days leading up to the event and the day of. And of course thanks to all those who join us for a great meal and support a great cause.
The funds raised through the Salmon Fry allow the department to purchase needed equipment that may not fit into an already tight annual budget. The department so eloquently calls it ‘bells and whistles’ money when in actuality it is used to purchase equipment needed to allow Garland Firefighters to provide a much better service to our customers. The firefighters themselves put on the Salmon Fry as a way to be able to earn those funds without an increase to the taxpayers of Garland.
In years past we’ve purchased stabilization equipment to use in vehicle accidents. We’ve used the money to purchase two defibrillators to aid on medical. It’s also been used as a large portion to purchase the last fire engine the department secured.
So the department can’t express how much we appreciate the support of the community on this each year. We will continue to set aside that first day in Saturday for everyone to join us for a great cause and a delicious Salmon BBQ!
